Welcome to 1824, where the timeless craft of leatherworking meets the rich traditions of fine whiskeys. My name is Dan and I'm the artisan behind each handcrafted piece you see here.
I am dedicated to three things with this outlet I have created:
1.) Creating high quality, thoughtfully designed, leather products and striving to become better and more knowledgeable with each one.
2.) Building community by blurring the lines between the rich histories of whiskey distilling and leathercrafting.
3.) Having a dang good time doing those things with you all!
In the heart of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, each leather product is created one at a time, using only hand tools and traditional leather crafting techniques. The methods used are ones I’ve learned from spending countless hours watching and reading the works of masters in the craft. Every wallet, belt, handbag, and more is crafted with vegetable-tanned leather sourced from the highest quality and ethically responsible tanneries. I believe in the art of meticulous craftsmanship and creating products designed to last a lifetime and then some.
The name "1824" holds special significance for me—it's a nod to the date I married my wonderful wife on October 18th, 2024. For my wedding, I handcrafted leather wallets for my 8 groomsmen, a token of appreciation and a reminder of their enduring importance in my life. This tradition of making meaningful, high-quality leather goods inspired me to launch 1824.
At 1824, we blend a passion for leatherwork with a love of bourbon whiskey, infusing each creation with a western flair and the spirit of America's finest spirits. Just as a master distiller carefully selects each ingredient for a perfect whiskey mashbill, I carefully curate the perfect ingredients of leather and thread for each of my projects. And just as a single barrel whiskey is unique, many of my products are one-of-a-kind, hand-stitched with care and dedication.
